21. Nowember 2005ARCANUM, Ohio -- Two children from the town were seriously injured Sunday night when a car hit a horse-drawn buggy they were riding in and ejected them from their seats.
The 3- and 6-year-old boys were taken to Children's Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio, via CareFlight after the 5:53 p.m. accident.
Their conditions were not known this morning.
Police said Doris Lowry, 79, of West Milton struck the rear of the buggy with her 2002 Dodge Neon. The accident happened on Ohio 571 near Layer Road northeast of Arcanum.
As of this morning, police did not know what factors caused the accident.
The children's father, Kenton Grim, was not injured. His wife and two other children were not hurt. Police did not reveal their names or the names of the injured children.
The accident is the second in the area that was investigated by police. On July 15, a Richmond police officer was injured in an accident involving another car and a horse-drawn buggy at the intersection of Indiana 38 and Teetor Road in Hagerstown, Ind.
An investigation into the Arcanum incident is expected to continue. No citations have been issued in connection with the accident, police said.
